Dequa Designs founder, has been crocheting with her mother and grandmother as long as she can remember. Blankets, hats, scarves for each friend and family alike. It was the art of crocheting in the round with beads, a skill her grandmother taught her that fascinated her the most. After many hours of learning and trying many beads she found a style she could make uniquely her own and Dequa Designs was born. The time and dedication given to each piece brings back memories of humble family beginnings and the skills that were taught at an early age.

For Dequa, the dream of creating and selling her art has been a lifelong process. She thinks about how a design will look and where it will be worn. Each piece is perfection, with history and generations of talent passed down into each and every threaded bead that is crocheted. For her, the concrete, repetitive nature of this works frees ones imagination for design, and provides many opportunities for happy accident and grace to influence finished product.

After years of practice, Dequa has found that working with different bead shapes and colors yields the most elegant results. “From the beginning the process of transforming string into fabric has struck me as magical. Over the years, that magical process has had its way with me, leading me from hobby to art.” She has studied various techniques and designs that have helped her cultivate a singular yet international style. All pieces are hand designed and crafted by Dequa in her home studio in Florida. She still makes time to learn new techniques and exhibits at tradeshows and galleries around the area.
